meet the musicians


Hanna Wolle

Hanna is a violinist with Quartet 515. A native of Des Moines, Hanna began playing the violin at the age of 4 with her father, a classically-trained violist. After playing throughout her childhood, Hanna pursued her academic interests and attended the University of Iowa, graduating with degrees in Economics and Chinese language. She returned to Des Moines to work at Principal and quickly launched her music career. Hanna won a first violin spot with the Des Moines Symphony in 2017 and also performs with fellow violinist Genevieve Salamone in the Dueling Fiddles. In her free time, Hanna enjoys spending time with her partner, Matt, and her kitty, Margo, as well as going for bike rides, practicing yoga, and sampling craft beer.


Nina Liu

Nina is a violinist with Quartet 515. She attended Drake University, where she received her bachelor's degree in Finance with a minor in music. Nina works at Principal in their asset management business, specializing in commercial real estate. Though she pursued a career in finance, Nina has been a lifelong musician and supporter of the arts, and has performed regularly with the Des Moines Symphony and other local ensembles along with Quartet 515. Outside of work and music, you'll find Nina spending time with her husband, Austin, and their two cats, Clara and Theo.


Joyce Beyer

Joyce is a violist with Quartet 515 and an active community member. With a Bachelor of Music in Education and a Master of Arts focused in String Pedagogy from the University of Northern Iowa, Joyce works as the head orchestra director for the Northside Orchestra Program in Des Moines Public Schools as well as an adjunct professor of violin and viola at Drake University. Joyce performs regularly with the Des Moines Symphony and for numerous local ensembles and events. Beyond performing, she acts as a Director for Zenith Chamber Music Festival and the Drake University Honor Orchestra Festival. When she’s not working, Joyce enjoys exploring Des Moines with her husband, William, and their dog, Roman.


Robert Espe

Robert is a substitute violinist with Quartet 515. Raised in Independence, IA, Robert began studying music at the age of three with the Suzuki School at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). He then graduated from UNI in 2011 where he earned a Bioinformatics degree. Currently a second violinist with the Des Moines Symphony, Robert is also an active saxophonist and mandolinist, performing regularly with local ensembles including the Des Moines Big Band and Choro Moingona, regional bands such as Euforquestra, and world-class artists including Katy Perry, The Temptations, and Debby Boone. In his spare time, Robert enjoys hiking and camping, playing video games, and trying new restaurants.


Paul Virgilio

Paul is a cellist with Quartet 515. He began studying cello in his hometown of Pleasant Valley, NY. After moving to Des Moines in 2009 to study Cello Performance at Drake University, he won a position with the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra in 2010. Since then, he has maintained and grown an active performing career in Des Moines and the surrounding areas. In addition to chamber music collaboration and private study, Paul enjoys fine dining, climbing, and spending time with his partner, Emily, and their two cats, Coco and Jacquie.
